Biology student Ayesha Khankhail named July First-Gen Student of the Month

好色先生 (LU) proudly announces Ayesha Khankhail as the First-Generation Student of the Month for July. A junior biology major on the pre-optometry track, Khankhail hails from Pakistan and exemplifies the dedication and resilience of first-generation college students.Ayesha K.

As a first-gen student, Khankhail has navigated the complex college experience largely on her own.

“As the first in your family to go to college, you're not just pursuing your dream, you’re opening doors,” she said. “I navigated college admissions, financial aid, the entire college experience, living away from home, while working as well, all with little to no guidance.”

She also shared how challenging moments have fueled her determination.

“I had to talk myself out of quitting so many times, reciting through tears that it will be worth it one day,” she said. “That sets a legacy by showing younger siblings, cousins, or even future generations that higher education is attainable.”

Khankhail stressed the greater impact of being a first-generation student.

“Being first-gen isn’t just a statistic. It’s a narrative of transformation. You carry the excitement of the firsts, the love and sacrifices behind them, and the commitment to guide others afterward,” she said.

Living out a dream her parents never had the chance to pursue, Khankhail credits their sacrifices for her success.

“Their sacrifices gave me this opportunity, and I carry their strength with me every step of the way,” she said.

The university continues to celebrate first-generation students who demonstrate perseverance, leadership, and a commitment to uplifting their communities.
